Whether you live 20 minutes or 20 miles away from campus, here are some tips to help you start out the new year strong.
Getting around
Your RTD CollegePass allows you to ride any local or regional route. This includes the SkyRide bus to the airport for no additional charge. Learn more about how to ride the bus or how to find a park-n-ride near you by visiting RTD’s website.
On a beautiful, sunny day there can be more than 6,000 students commuting by bike to campus. Bike racks are located throughout campus, with covered bike parking at select locations. Remember to lock your bike with a U-lock to a bike rack and not ADA rails, stair rails or trees. Make sure your bike is registered with the CU Bicycle Program, wear a helmet and install front and rear lights on your bike. Learn more about Boulder city bike laws and regulations.
If you are on campus in the evening, CU NightRide provides free late night transportation for CU students within Boulder city limits. Request a ride through the TapRide app for a safe ride home!
Eating on campus
Many students who commute to campus bring food with them to eat during the day. There are microwaves available for students to use in the UMC near the Alferd Packer Grill.
Block Meal Plans are available through Housing & Dining Services for students living off-campus. Each plan offers flexibility and convenience with a specific number of meals per semester. You can purchase Block Meal Plans anytime during the year. Learn more about Block Meal Plans.
Where to hang out
Depending on your schedule, you may have some time to relax between classes or other commitments on campus. Check out some of the many places at CU Boulder to hang out, study or even take a nap.
Tips for living in Boulder
Boulder is a friendly, welcoming place to live! Here are some safety tips and reminders about living in the Boulder community.
- Meet your neighbors. Introduce yourself to your neighbors and exchange phone numbers. Ask your neighbors to watch your house and collect your mail when you're out of town.
- Be safe. Always keep your doors and windows locked. Keep your house or apartment well lit when home, and leave your porch light on at night.
- Register your party. If you’re hosting a party off-campus, consider registering your party. Register your Friday or Saturday night party and receive a warning from dispatch if your party is too loud. Unlike a nuisance party ticket, registration is free!
- Don't feed the bears. The city of Boulder has a bear protection ordinance that requires trash to be secured in bear-resistant trashcans or carts within designated areas of the city. Unsecured trash can lead to a $250 fine to property owners or tenants for a first offense.
